My passion for running intensifies in Italy
Italy is an open air museum, the dream country for lovers of art, history and food. So it’s no coincidence that huge numbers of running fans come to practise their favourite sport alongside ancient archaeological sites, through the wondrous landscapes of Sicily, Tuscany and Calabria. And it’s perhaps no surprise that these same places have given the world some of running’s greatest names such as Stefano Baldini and Giorgio Calcaterra.
Running enthusiasts of every description come here because Italy offers true diversity of runs to suit every level. From the famous Rome marathon with its diabolical hills to the mediaeval path through Florence, cradle of the Renaissance, the choice is in a class of its own. Great challenges await you in both the North and the South: the Ciaspolada with its 7.5 km course through the Alps with snowshoes or the Volcano Trail in Sicily where a 5 day run climaxes with ascending Mount Etna. Passion for the sport is clearly nationwide! And of course, Venice confirms its reputation for magic by inviting running fans to take to the streets after dark in the astonishing Night Marathon of Venice. Breathtaking.
